About the AuthorJames G. Powers, S.J., is a Jesuit priest. He is a professor of English at Gonzaga University, a senior member of the English Department and its former chairman. He also holds a position on the University Board of Members and the Coughlin Chair of English Studies. His specialties are 17th and 18th Century British Literature and Philology. Publications include: A Cultivated Vocabulary and Handbook of Helpers; fiction in The Washington Anthology (1989 Centennial Edition) and Amelia; articles in Studies in Short Fiction, Human Development, and The Bible Today. His favorite prose authors are Henry Fielding, Walker Percy, Flannery O'Connor and P.D. James.
